That never happens

Tiffy was complaining that the mail hadn't yet arrived at 4:30pm. I suggested that possibly a new carrier had put it in the outside mailbox instead of delivering it to the front desk as is the norm.

Tiff: It's not in the mailbox. That never happens.

Me: It rarely happens but occasionally, it does.

Tiff: It's never happened as long as I've been here.

Me: It rarely happens but occasionally, it does.

Tiff: Well, I'm going to take a walk.

[Tiff goes outside, comes back in with the mail in her hands.]

Me: It was in the box?? That never happens!

Tiff: No, it never does!
